Website Format Change

Beginning imediately our website format will begin to look a little different. To begin with our site has many more viewers than the typical parish site. We have noticed than many who receive the email SJB Weekender click to the website. Thank you for doing this. It is also a fact that 70% of the readers use a mobile device to read both the email and the website.

Therefore we are changing the format to not only be more robust for the desktop readers but more friendly for the mobile user.

Please email suggestions: larry@sjbrebeuf.org

Mission

We are a people of faith who offer each other and those touched by us the means to experience God through prayer, sacraments, education and mutual support in light of the Gospel and Catholic Tradition.

Renew My Church

Renew My Church – First of  a Series

Where we are at now. ---Many Catholic communities are content and comfortable meeting the spiritual needs of those in the pews. Evangelization is left up to the Spirit, and the Great Commission to 'go and make disciples” is not fully internalized.

Where we are going. --- We bring all people to Christ, reaching beyond those in the pews into the neighborhoods, ministering to the hurting and those who feel alienated.

Our grouping parishes are St. Isaac Jogues, Niles and St. Martha, Morton Grove. We are beginning to discuss this future-focussed and mission-oriented planning process to discern new models that meet the changing demographics and mission needs in our area. Please let me know if you are interested in being a part of this new adventure. frmeanysjb@yahoo.com

Divorce and You

The Catholic Church cares deeply about those who suffer a failed marriage. In the coming weeks, we at St John Brebeuf will be bringing information forward. It will show how our living body views divorce in today's world. Soon we will be getting together as divorced Catholics to better understand our faith and what it means to us today.

Children's Choir

SJB Children’s Choir Gets Around!

The fun continues with the SJB Children’s Choir who like to keep busy! Photos above show the choir singing in the PMC for our International Night, and for the Pueri Cantores workshop and Mass at Holy Name Cathedral in early March. This yearly event is for special singing groups to learn more about their singing from a national expert and to enjoy the fellowship of other choirs from the region, culminating in massed-choir for a full length weekend Mass at the Cathedral. For more information about the choir, please call Ms. Ewa Fair (773) 551-0284. (Photos)

Virtus

VIRTUS programs are designed to help protect children from sexual abuse.  To achieve this goal, the Archdiocese of Chicago offers the program “Protecting God’s Children.”   The sessions provide information to raise awareness and to help prevent abuse using worksheets, discussions and videos that incorporate interviews with both victims and convicted perpetrators.

The Archdiocese of Chicago requires every employee and volunteer who interacts with children to complete the program.  To comply with this requirement, St. John Brebeuf is proud to offer “Protecting God’s Children” to its parishioners and all employees and volunteers of the Archdiocese.  Group sessions are facilitated by parishioners Pam Perez and Tim Spadoni and are generally held one weeknight per month, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., in the May Ministry Center.
