This year’s retreat is now behind us, but attendees continue to reflect upon all that was learned and the fellowship we shared. As we gathered in near perfect late summer mountain weather, the anticipation built; we knew we were in for a treat from our presenters, Clint McCann and Michael Morgan. Once the program (Soul Food: Reclaiming the Psalms) was under way, it became clear that our presenters would exceed our expectations! Throughout the weekend, we laughed, prayed, sang, listened and grew together under their expert guidance in our study of the psalms. We came to appreciate the depth of knowledge both Clint and Michael possess, their engaging speaking styles and their delightful senses of humor. They were a synergistic team, one we were privileged to witness! The end of each session found Centralites and guests lingering in Upper Anderson, wanting more and not quite ready to break the spell.

Our youth facilitated an active learning experience of the psalms with the children, and it was reported by all to be a great success. Children and youth lent their remarkable gifts to worship as well, enhancing the services and providing more memorable moments that we all carry with us.

As we bask in the glow of Montreat 2009, we look forward to 2010, when Kathryn McClymond (an affiliate faculty member with the Middle East Institute and director of the Jewish Studies Program at Georgia State University) will be our featured speaker, and we will gather once again as a community in the mountains.
