Supporting Scholarships

Good Shepherd parishioners support more than 85 scholarships for children at the House of Hope Orphanage in Haiti and the community of Faith, Hope, and Joy in Honduras, as well as a sponsorship for a student at the El Hogar Technical Institute in Honduras. The campaign to raise funds is underway for the current school year, and the Outreach Committee needs YOUR help to give these children an education and hope for the future.

HOH students CUOlder students at the House of Hope go to Ste. Croix Episcopal School in Leogane, which was destroyed in the earthquake and is now being rebuilt through the UN. Click here for more on the
House of Hope, and contact Arline Easley at 703-323-1875, Bobarleasley@verizon.net.

FHJ smThe children at Faith, Hope, and Joy attend the Episcopal Bishop of Honduras' grade school near San Pedro Sula. Good Shepherd sent two mission teams to build the community after a devastating hurricane. For more on the project click here, and contact Jim Connally at 703-978-7116, mandjconnally@cox.net . Each scholarship for these students is $300 and all contributions are welcome.

El Hogar NELSON smThe El Hogar sponsorship supports student Nelson Lazo who is also learning carpentry. Several mission teams have traveled to El Hogar, and contributions of any amount toward the $1,500 sponsorship are appreciated. Contact Richard or Sharon Holcombe, 703-830-7974, jrholc49@cox.net, and read about the recent mission trip to El Hogar.

The whole congregation is called to share in the outreach of our parish. We provide opportunities for all age groups, beginning with our Sunday School children who learn about mission with their Lenten offering, and reach out for local service to mission trips abroad.

We are thankful for the many ways that our parish supports outreach ministries as a part of the general budget, our special compassion fund for those in need, and from individual gifts.  We encourage all members to find some ministry that reaches out beyond our parish family into God’s world.
