Message from Pastor Linda

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

The author of Hebrews was addressing a community that had experienced persecution; they were filled with great anxiety as they faced an unknown future. Their faith was being tested. Despite their situation, it was easier for them to cling to what was familiar than to move forward. Faith is about moving forward and being open to the possibilities. It’s about choosing to step into an unknown future that we cannot see and to follow where God leads.

Faith is much more than an intellectual decision, it’s more than belief - it’s about relationship. You know you have faith when your heart is pounding, and you take the next step forward… your heart will follow your feet and God will lead the way. In these challenging times, when we look at our lives, sometimes we just see the challenges and disappointments, but the truth is that God has been with us all along the way - guiding and sustaining us. New life is possible, through faith and trust, despite what we see. Our adventures begin when we talk to God, when we live by faith, and when we give up our need to control what will happen next.

A church community is vitally important as we listen for God’s call in our lives, as we progress in our faith journey, as we help others heal and as we deepen our spirituality. We are here to listen, to care, to encourage, to empower and to hold one another in prayer. Where are you spiritually in your walk with Christ? Wherever you are in your faith journey, remember that God is with you.

In what areas of your life do you especially need God’s power this week? This prayer from St. Patrick has been helpful for me and I share it with you:

I arise today through God’s strength to pilot me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
Christ be with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Christ be with me.

Blessings and peace,
Linda Bailey, Associate Pastor
