Vocare
Diocese launches Vocare program
Vocare, a weekend retreat for young adults between the ages of 19 to 35, held its first weekend in Southwest Florida Feb. 7–9 at DaySpring Conference Center.
The purpose of Vocare, according to the program’s director, Rachel Kendzior, is to examine how God is calling participants in their lives and how they can best answer His call.
“God blessed us with nine willing participants with open hearts, as well as 10 staff members. It was extremely evident that the Holy Spirit was also very present throughout the weekend as we sang together, prayed together, worshiped together, and grew as a community together,” she said.

Mandy Meloy, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of South Florida, said the event helped her to reconnect with God. “I am a new freshmen, and every body knows how that is,” she explained. “I am feeling just a little lost in what God has planed for me now.” In high school, she said attending Happening weekends kept her away from “the parties and bad places ... Now Vocare will do that for me in college. It is an amazing weekend,” she said.
Lauren Tripp, a 23-year-old participant from North Fort Myers, said she was hesitant to sign up because she would older than most at the retreat. “I discovered that not only was one of my small group members older than me, but even the 19-year-olds and I had one very important thing in common — a hunger to know what God’s vocation was for our lives.”
Heather Beverly, from Clearwater, said the program helped bring her life into focus. “I just graduated from college and I was like “OK, God, now what?” and through little things this weekend I heard the Lord’s answer to my question.”
