Mission and ministry through the Millennium Development Goals

Mission and ministry through the
Millennium Development Goals

A resource for parish study
developed by the Rev. Leon Spencer

The resource

The intent of this five-session study is for us to reflect upon God’s mission on earth and upon God’s calling to us to fulfill that mission, and for us to consider how the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) may relate to mission and ministry. From your engagement in study and reflection, we encourage you to reaffirm decisions previously made, or to make decisions, individually and as a congregation, to engage in global witness by addressing, in some manner, the Millennium Development Goals.

On our website we have the following materials as pdf files:

Some suggestions for
facilitators

Evaluation

We especially encourage facilitators and participants in this study to complete evaluations and return them to us. We pay attention to them! Thanks.

Booklets

While you are welcome to use this resource from this website, we also produce participants and facilitators copies in attractive bound booklets. We ask for $5.00 per copy, which meets our production and postage costs only. Some financial assistance is available to congregations in the Diocese of North Carolina on request. Contact us.

Adaptation for other dioceses

Other dioceses in the Episcopal Church may replace the Diocese of North Carolina’s resolution on the Millennium Development Goals (on pp. 6-7) with their own, and then reproduce this resource, provided that the School is informed and appropriate acknowledgment is made. Contact the School of Ministry.

Permission to copy

The School of Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina encourages the use of our parish studies. Parishes, university chaplaincies and other entities within the Church are free to copy these resources as long as appropriate acknowledgment is made and as long as no payment is required or requested. Any other reproduction of these materials requires prior permission from the
School of Ministry.

Conversations about a Theology of Partnership

Companion links, as our diocese has with Costa Rica and Botswana, is just one expression of partnership, but it's an important one, and we drew from our partners, as well as from folk in our diocese, in producing our first DVD program, a four-part series: Conversations about a Theology of Partnership.    more....

Conversations about the Kingdom of God

How do we understand Jesus' many comments about the Kingdom of God?  We have variously interpreted Jesus' teachings as talking about the end of time or the transformation of the world, the "in-breaking" of the Kingdom. Here in this four-part series, released in August 2008, Bishop "Chip" Marble, Canon Michael Battle and EfM participants reflect on their understandings.    more....
