The Windsor Report

The Windsor Report of the Lambeth Commission on Communion

New: Given the breadth of interpretations of official statements and decisions made by various Anglican Communion instruments and by Episcopal Church USA structures, including General Convention 2006, relative to the Windsor Report process, the School of Ministry has prepared a table providing the texts from the Windsor Report and General Convention, simply comparing what these documents and resolutions actually say. “Comparison of Windsor Report and Anglican Communion Requests to the Episcopal Church USA and Responses from General Convention 2006” draws not only from the Windsor Report and General Convention 2006 but also from the Primates of the Anglican Communion, the Anglican Consultative Council, our House of Bishops, and the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church USA. The “rubrics” are primarily based upon the specific recommendations of the Windsor Report. The document is available as a pdf file.

The 189th Convention of the Diocese of North Carolina in 2005 passed a resolution (
2005-1), “On Receiving the Windsor Report.”

In it the Convention called “upon all parties addressed by the Windsor Report to receive it in a spirit of penitence and humility and to strive faithfully to preserve the unity of this church for the sake of the mission of the gospel.”

It further “encourages the congregations of this diocese to enter into study of the report and become familiar with the issues addressed and the pain felt by persons on all sides of the discussion.”

The School of Ministry developed several resources for a presentation and discussion at the diocesan convention in January 2005. These include

  • a presentation summarizing the Windsor Report made by our Dean
  • a brief summary of the report
  • next steps in reflection upon the report (which has since been updated)
  • resources related to the report (which has also been updated)

For small group discussion, the School also developed three versions providing quotations from the report and from comments about the report, with questions for discussion.

Conversations about a Theology of Partnership

Companion links, as our diocese has with Costa Rica and Botswana, is just one expression of partnership, but it's an important one, and we drew from our partners, as well as from folk in our diocese, in producing our first DVD program, a four-part series: Conversations about a Theology of Partnership.

DVDs were distributed to all of our congregations this summer, along with a guide for their use as a stimulus to adult discussion.  They last from 12 to 18 minutes.  Contact us if you have questions.
