The ESAB Welding & Cutting University located on the campus of Florence Darlington Technical College features over 100 training booths and is the only accredited American Welding Society certification facility in South Carolina.  Certification classes in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Pipe Welding are all available.  The Southeastern Insitute of Manufacturing & Technology also offers training in a 20,000 square foot advanced manufacturing arena with six axis CNC machinery.

    Honda ATV
    Honda     selected Florence County in 1997 for an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) assembly operation that initially committed to an investment of $25 million and the creation of 200 jobs.  Over the past 10 years the company has grown to the largest manufacturing employer in the county with over 1,600 associates (plus an additional 200 contract associates), made a capital investment in excess of $200 million, and added a number of operations to their Florence operation.

    Since the start of production in 1998, Honda has produced over 2 million ATV's, added ATV engine manufacturing (2000), personal watercraft (PWC) manufacturing (2002), and aluminum wheel production (2004).  Their footprint includes a 488,000 square foot ATV manufacturing facility and 88,000 square foot Personal Watercraft facility located on 625 acres. 

    Operations performed at the Florence facility include
    ATV Frame Manufacturing: welding, frame assembly, painting, plastic injection molding, blow molding, sub-assembly, product engineering development, and dynamic testing
    ATV Engine Manufacturing: high pressure and low pressure die-casting, ferrous and aluminum machining, engine and differential assembly, and engine testing
    ATV Aluminum Wheel Manufacturing: annealing, automation/blanking, roll bend, friction stir welding, tab cut, drop, rough curl/full curl, hump, disk assembly, leak testing, runout inspection, and pin stamp
    PWC Manufacturing: hull and deck assembly, sub-assembly, quality assurance, and dynamic testing
