Today, McLeod serves as the regional referral center for 12 counties in southeastern South Carolina. McLeods neonatal intensive care unit is among the Southeast's finest.
McLeods facilities are comprehensive. They include one of the most advanced cancer treatment centers in South Carolina, as well as a heart institute with the most successful open heart surgery and cardiac treatment programs in the state. McLeod cardiac surgical care is outstanding -- the program has the lowest complication rate for open heart surgery in the nation. Complementing cardiac hospital care is the "HeartReach" Mobile Cardiac Unit, providing expert cardiac emergency transport to hospitals throughout the Pee Dee region.
With the opening of McLeods Womens Pavilion, McLeod continues its commitment to health-care excellence. The Womens Pavilion combines advanced technologies with the personal touch of skilled professionals devoted to meeting the needs of women in all stages of their life. Campus-wide expansions have included: a medical office building for McLeod s growing staff; a 21-million-electron-volt linear accelerator that benefits cancer patients; the Breast Imaging Center for early detection of breast cancer; and the state's first permanent site magnetic resonance imaging system -- the most powerful diagnostic tool available to patients today.
McLeods expertise is not limited to its remarkable facilities. The center also has a highly trained and skilled staff. The medical staff is young and dynamic. Physicians have studied and practiced at the finest medical schools in the country and are dedicated to staying abreast of the latest advances in medical care and technology. All major specialties and subspecialties are represented at McLeod. Nearly all of the 180-member medical staff are board certified or board eligible.
McLeod is also the only teaching hospital in the region with a Family Practice Residency Program serving 21 physicians.
