The Florence County Building & Planning Department is responsible for approvals pertaining to:
- Site Plan Review
- County Permits
- Building Permits
- Other Special Use Permits
Approval process for these permits are obtained between 14-45 days after respective plans are submitted.

State Permitting Authority
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) is the primary environmental agency for South Carolina and has been authorized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer federal environmental permitting programs in conjunction with associated state programs.
The Office of Environmental Quality Control (EQC) is the environmental regulatory arm of the SCDHEC. EQC is responsible for the enforcement of federal and state environmental laws and regulations, and for the issuance of permits, licenses and certifications for activities which may affect the environment. EQC is composed of program areas, each concerned with a specific aspect of environmental protection. These areas include the Bureau of Air, the Bureau of Water, and the Bureau of Land & Waste Management.
