55+ Covered Dish Luncheon

55+ Covered Dish Luncheon will be Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 12:00 Noon in Fellowship Hall.  Please go by, call 706.548.1359, or email the church office to sign up and let the receptionist know by Tuesday, May 13 whether you will bring a salad, vegetable, or a dessert. Chicken fingers and drinks will be provided. 

Our speaker will be Dr. Jay Payne whose topic will be “What’s for Dinner, Dear: An Exploration of We Are What We Eat”.  Dr. Payne grew up in Athens.  He has a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology. His career has been in research and development focused on infectious diseases and cancer detection and diagnosis.  He retired and bought a 95 acre farm in Oglethorpe County and started sustainable farming.  He has been providing local markets with naturally grown produce since 2006 and is working with other farmers and the Athens-Clarke County Extension Office to start a new Athens Farmers Market for local and sustainable produce which opens May 17, 2008 in Bishop Park.
