Mens Group Activities 2007-2008

MEN'S GROUP - 2007-2008 ACTIVITIES PLAN

We have put together a more aggressive program for the Men’s Group for the coming ten months, hoping that there will be something for EVERYONE.  With that in mind, we have decided to set programming for every month, except December.  Here is what's on the schedule.

AUGUST!  Marty Wareing is going to host the Second Annual TEXAS HOLD’EM tournament at his home in Maitland on Saturday, August 25.  Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.; cards at 7:30 p.m.  Suggested donations are $10.00 for dinner and $10:00 to play Texas Hold'em.  Proceeds with go to to help fund the Summer Youth Mission Experience Program.  We had a great time last year with a large spread of food and then a tournament for all levels of play.

SEPTEMBER!  We are looking at putting together a Men’s Study Series for Wednesday Evenings. Bring the family, have a good meal, and then stay for a discussion on a new program that Pastor Bryan is excited about us sharing together. We are also looking at taking a Saturday Morning trip up to DeLeon Springs State Park, just north of Deland. For those of you who have not gone there before, it’s a great breakfast place. The old sugar mill was built in 1832 and now serves as a restaurant where you cook your own pancakes and eggs on large griddles built into your table. The springs are a cool 73 degrees if you care to swim, and we may also look at putting together a Volley Ball game to work off some of the calories!!! Date for this trip is Sept. 22nd at 6:45 a.m.

OCTOBER!  Bob Dutton has offered to host an evening of BOWLING and BBQ. We can start out at Aloma Bowl and end up over at their place for a big BBQ dinner.

NOVEMBER!  This month is Date Night!  We are going to find a place for a nice dinner and dance party for us to bring that special person. If any of you know of places that would be available for something of this nature, please let me know!

DECEMBER!  We will leave this month alone and let you party with your church and office friends, march in the Winter Park Christmas Parade with our float, and be a part of the all things Wonderful and Festive this month.

JANUARY!  We are hoping to attend a Father/Son/Uncle/Grandpa…intergenerational sporting event either at Rollins or Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The Amway Arena is also an option.

FEBRUARY!  We are planning a Men’s Retreat for the 15th through the 17th of this month. It will be someplace near Orlando, but far enough away that we will want to stay overnight. This promises to be a fun and enlightening time for all. Please put it on your calendars now and save the dates!

MARCH! Art and Computer Night followed by a trip to Fiddler’s Green Tavern for a little snack and libation. Come in and learn some new tricks in the Computer Lab, or create, paint and glaze some pottery in the Art Room. Then quench your thirst with a nice cold beer afterward at “The Green”.

APRIL! Get your sunscreen and paddles out guys, we’re headed down the Wekiva River in canoes. Later, we'll stop for a bonfire and lunch!

So there you have it guys. Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas or thoughts, please share them with me. Remember that with exception of the October Sporting event and the September Study Series, this group is for guys 21 and over, since we do have alcohol at many of these events. I will be sending you updates as we get a better idea of times and venues for the various functions.
