9/29 - Oktoberfest
The Oktoberfest event will be Friday September 29th at 6pm.
More details will follow.
10/22 - FELC/Grace Covenant
Sunday, October 22, we will have a joint service with our neighbor, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, located at 1627 Monument Avenue.
The worship service, at Grace Covenant, will begin at 11 am (this time may change); we will not have a second service at First English on that day (we will have our normal 8:15 service, however). Lutheran and Presbyterian: two poles of the Protestant Reformation, one looking to Luther, the other to Calvin and John Knox as the persons who helped redefine Christianity.
10/29 - Reformation Sunday
We will celebrate Reformation Sunday at First English on Sunday, October 29 in both worship services. The second service will feature special music, including instrumentalists. The Sunday closest to Reformation Day itself (October 31) is usually designated as Reformation Sunday, at least in Lutheran circles, and so in one sense the services on the 29th will represent the high point of our year-long celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
11/1 - All Saints Day
All Saints Day on Wednesday, November 1, we will gather along with the other congregations of our Richmond Conference at Epiphany Lutheran Church for a special Reformation/All Saints event, beginning with light meal at 6:00 pm (again, the time is subject to change), and followed by a service of the word, and highlighting the ecumenical implications of Luther's teachings through a sermon by a Roman Catholic Priest.
