Rev. Julie D. Thompson

Julie5Julie Donohue Thompson grew up in western Connecticut, northern Virginia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication with honors from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. At Miami, she was active in student government and campus ministry and helped to start a college ministry at Oxford Presbyterian Church.

After five years of college and youth ministry, she pursued her Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary on the ten-year plan. She is married to Daniel, a former middle school science teacher and soon-to-be nursing student. Their three children, Sam (13), Claire (11), and Ellie (6), are happy to make Athens their new home.

Having served in urban, suburban, and rural churches in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and South Carolina and having led mission trip experiences around the world, Julie brings a breadth of experience to her role as associate pastor. She joined our staff in June 2009, with primary responsibility for discipleship, evangelism, outreach, young adult ministry, and family ministry. She has also been charged with improving church communications and creating small group learning opportunities.
