Vision & Strategy

The vision and strategy of First Presbyterian Church of Clinton are best found in the Visioning Documents last published by the Session in April 2009.  The basic Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Core Values, and "The Great Ends of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)" are summarized below.  We encourage all interested in better understanding how First Presbyterian Church is organizing and operating around these principles to review the entire publication.

Vision Statement

As the body of Christ, we are called to follow Jesus Christ in loving God and our neighbor.

Mission Statement

In the spirit of the Great Ends of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), First Presbyterian Church is called to nurture its people through worship and Christian education, enabling them to serve joyfully the community and world, equipping all to become mature disciples of Jesus Christ.

Core Values

  1. United In Christ - The grace of God in Jesus Christ is for all people, and with joy we celebrate our unity in Christ. Guided by our confessions, we embrace our uniquely Presbyterian heritage by practicing a faith that calls us to serve God faithfully and our neighbors lovingly.
  2. Inspired in Worship - Worship is at the center of the Christian faith. We gather to encounter the living God through the reading and preaching of God’s word, the celebration of the sacraments, and the songs, prayers, and fellowship of the people, honoring God with our very best.
  3. Equipped in Christian Education - We strive to be diligent and effective in encouraging a diverse program of Christian Education that engages people of all ages. Through Sunday school classes, Bible studies, youth ministries, and special learning events, we aim to offer Christian Education that is well organized, well led, and well supported in our church and community.
  4. Love in Action - The love of God is unconditional, and with gratitude we live our lives in response to God’s steadfast love. We love because God first loved us, and we embody God’s love in all that we say and do, reaching beyond the boundaries of race, economics, and culture.
  5. Selfless in Service - Through acts of compassion, we embody our prayers as servants of Jesus Christ, who gave of himself, expecting nothing in return. We listen intently for God’s call and confront our future with hope and confidence in God’s purposes.

The Great Ends of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

  1. The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind;
  2. The shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
  3. The maintenance of divine worship;
  4. The preservation of the truth;
  5. The promotion of social righteousness;
  6. The exhibition of the kingdom of heaven to the world.
