- To provide a series of weekly meetings for 8th graders over a 9 months for the study of the Christian faith where they can build relationships with others (confirmands, leaders, mentors, and others), and discover and develop what they believe about the elements of the Christian faith including God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Bible (Scripture), Sacraments, the Christian Life and being a member in a Christian Church.
- To provide an environment to share with the Confirmands what the Presbyterian Church (USA) and specifically First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, as people of faith, believe; our doctrine.
- To have an open dialog with the Confirmands where they can ask questions of faith, seek answers and arrive at their conclusions about their faith.
- To point to a time at the end of the 9 month period where Confirmands, individually, can make their own declaration that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of their life, or to defer that declaration.
