The Confirmation program at First Presbyterian Church is designed to prepare our eighth graders for membership in the church. The curriculum, which is designed by our Confirmation team of teachers, fosters engaging conversation and dialogue about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, prayer, the Bible, and the Church. The program demands consistent attendance and faithful participation. Our Confirmands develop lifelong relationships with their leaders and friends as they dig deeply into matters of faith. The Confirmation program culminates every year on Confirmation Sunday, a morning of worship and celebration, which is a favorite Sunday of the year for the congregation at First Presbyterian.

• To provide a series of weekly meetings for 8^th graders over a period of 9 months for the study of the Christian faith where they may build relationships with others (confirmands, leaders, Mentors, and others) and discover and develop what they believe about the foundations of Christian faith including who is God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, what is the Holy Bible, how does one pray and why, what is the purpose of the church and her mission and what does it mean to be a member of the church.

• Explore our denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA) and more specifically the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights as a people of faith, belief and practice.

• Provide an open and safe environment for the exploration of a personal faith, fully allowing all questions, walking faithfully with all as they seek answers and understanding, knowing this is a journey and not a final destination.

• To point to a time at the end of the 9 month period where each Confirmand, individually, may make their own discernment of faith and choose to profess their faith publically if they are ready or to defer that declaration to a later time.
