Fellowship groups at First Presbyterian Church have a long history and have come to serve a basic need for individuals who seek to enjoy one another on a social level within the context of the church family. All have their own unique genesis and, for the most part, they have a life of their own. For additional information or to contact a specific group, please call the church office at 847-255-5900.
BBT (Adults of every age)
Breaking Bread Together (BBT) welcomes all adults--singles, couples, widows, widowers, or divorced--who enjoy a casual meal and lively fellowship. Groups of six or eight gather at a host home on Friday or Satufrday evening or for Sunday brunch. The host prepares the main dish and beverages and the guests bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert. Gatherings are scheduled for three sessions: in the fall, winter and early spring.
Couples & Others Club
A group of older adults (both married and single) who meet on the third Saturday of each month for fun and fellowship. There is always a meal, either catered, pot-luck, or at a restaurant. The programs vary from in-house speakers, entertainers or games, to trips to theaters and other places of interest. Each year they choose officers and monthly hostesses from among themselves. A newsletter is mailed to all members prior to each meeting.
Live Wires (Older Adults)
The Live Wires is a fellowship group that organizes day trips around particular interests. The trips are taken on the third Thursday of each month. The January meeting is always used to plan for the year, at which time persons bring suggestions. Each trip has a volunteer member who coordinates the transportation, lunch, and other arrangements for the day’s activities. These events are for anyone who is committed to Christian fun and fellowship. There are no restrictions or requirements other than the willingness to enjoy yourself and others.
Bridge Club
The Bridge Club meets the first Saturday of each month, September through May, in participant's homes. In addition to bridge, the group enjoys fellowship and dessert.
Just Friends (Singles 40-55)
This group generally gathers Saturday evenings in the church parking lot at about 5:00 p.m. Activities have included the Field Museum, movies, golf, ethnic restaurants, Botanic Gardens, and art shows. A planning meeting is held once a month. This group has been in existence for nine years.
Presbyterians Unlimited
This group is for couples and singles in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Gatherings generally take place September through May on the second Saturday evening of the month. The events are usually themed and held at someone's home. Examples of past get-togethers include a progressive dinner, game night, movie night, volleyball, and a barbecue. Occasionally, the group plans an outing such as bowling or mini-golf.
Prime Time Live
The PTL’s are a fellowship group of singles and couples in their 50s and 60s that gathers in people’s homes on a casual basis. Activities generally revolve around a meal — from brunches to barbecues. The “age” of the group is “middle age” with children in high school and college. Events are not scheduled on a regular basis, but the group meets four to six times a year, generally on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon.
