Children's Ministries

Our ministries for children and their families offer an active and dynamic time for preschoolers through 5th grade. Children's Ministries are staffed by well-trained, volunteer teachers, who bring engaging, creative energy to their classrooms. Children and their families from our church and community are invited to participate in any of our children's ministry programs.

Children's Sunday School

Our Children's Sunday School is the foundation of our Children's Ministry. Each Sunday, beginning at 9:45 a.m., classes are offered for 3 year olds through 5th grade. Using the Presbyterian curriculum, We Believe, children experience age-appropriate Bible stories, engaging activities, music and much more! Our beautiful education space allows for additional opportunities for growing in faith through our well-equipped classrooms, computer lab and cinema room. Grade-level teaching teams create a welcoming space for children to learn, question and grow in their faith.

Children’s Summer Sunday School
Children’s Summer Sunday School ages preschool through 5th grade will combine for the summer sessions from Sunday June 19-August 21. Children will meet in room 229 for the summer. Please dress your children for summer learning and play!

Vacation Bible School  

Each summer, we invite the children of our church and community to an incredible week of Bible stories, arts and crafts, music, recreation and discovery. Children 3 years through 5th grade completed are invited to join us each June for a week of learning and growing in Christ together.

VBS 2012: Operation Overboard 

Mark your calendars now for Vacation Bible School 2012!  Monday, June 18-Thursday, June 21, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Cokesbury's Operation Overboard-Dare to Go Deep with God is an action-packed adventure that will take us swimming with humpback whales and seahorses, scuba diving through a vibrant coral reef and exploring in a submarine to the ocean floor, where eels and octopi play. The interactive lessons will allow children and leaders to “go deep” into God’s word, exploring Bible stories of people who revealed deep faith by knowing how to: Depend on God, Dare to Care, Claim Jesus, Choose to Follow, Change the World.

Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis until classroom spaces are filled. An online-registration form is required for each child. Children must be at least 3 years old (by August 31, 2011) through 5th grade (grade completed). Age requirements have been adjusted to accommodate the new public school guidelines.

Dinner buffet opens at 5:30 p.m. in John Knox. The cost for meals is $5/adult and $3/child. A parent MUST accompany children for dinner. Click the MENU link to view the meals for the week and to register you and your family to dine at the Diver’s Diner (Calvin Hall).

ITEMS NEEDED for VBS: Please save your PAPER grocery bags and bring them to Sarah Christie’s office for our craft projects.

Worship Bags

Worship bags are available for our elementary aged children as a support to their participation in worship. Age appropriate bulletins, a children's Bible, and other worship aids are offered in each bag. Worship bags are available in the Narthex of the sanctuary. Children may pick up their worship bags prior to worship and return them to the Narthex at the conclusion of worship. We hope you find these bags a welcoming and supportive means of engaging your child in worship.

Learning to Use My Bible

Learning to Use My Bible is a 5-week program for our 3rd grade children to introduce them to basics of using their Bibles! This engaging age-appropriate class is an exciting class full of games and activities that equip our children to confidently use their Bibles for study and worship. Personalized Bibles are presented to our 3rd graders during worship at the beginning of the program. Learning to Use My Bible is offered each fall prior to Advent. Children Worship Too!

Children Worship Too! is a 5-week program available to our Kindergarten and First Grade children and their parents. As children “graduate” from nursery care to worship participation, this program supports, educates and prepares families to worship together. Classes are available each fall prior to Advent.
