While there is no "right" way to walk this path, you might find these guidelines helpful:
- Clear your mind, and become aware of your breath. Allow yourself to find the pace your body wants to go. Try to shed the anxieties and concerns that distract you.
- Enter with an open mind and heart. Receive what God wishes to give you.
- You may "pass" or let others step around you at the turns.
- At the center you are invited to remain for awhile. It is a time for focus, meditation, and prayer. Like the entire walk, this is done in silence.
- When you are ready to resume the journey (and if time allows), leave the center and retraceyour steps through the same path you entered. this is an important reminder that one does not remain in the center, but returns to live one's daily life in the ordinary world, carrying and sharing what God has given us of His love.
You may wish to reflect on or share with your walking experience. The labyrinth is an evocative tool, calling forth an awareness of one's unconscious motives, attitudes, wisdom, emotions. If this walk seemd uncomfortable or incomprehensible to you, be patient; walk it a second or third time.
The Grace Church Labyrinth Project thanks you for your interest, your wilingness to take a risk to try something "new." We pray that you will understand the labyrinth ad a metaphor for your spiritual journey.
