Sacramental Preparation: Reconciliation and Eucharist (age 7 and up)

Holy Apostles feels we have a responsibility to support  you as the parent in your role as the primary religious educator of your child.  At baptism you were charged with passing on this faith to your child.  Both the school and religious education programs are here to supplement what you have taught and are teaching your child about their faith both in word and in action.  In addition, the at home preparation seeks to provide a context for you to discuss this important moment in their lives as they come face to face with the forgiving love of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the sacrifice of Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Each child is being accepted into the wider parish community.  This is not a school or religious education moment but a Church moment.  How we prepare children to receive the sacraments says a lot about how we understand the sacrament.  Group centered celebrations help emphasize that it is in the family and the community that children find nourishment in the Christian life. It is here that we are joint community who come together to witness the communal nature of Reconciliation and the celebration the Eucharist.

Children who have been baptized, have had at least one year of formal Religious education class (in a Catholic School or Family Discipleship), and have reached the age of 7 years old are eligible to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
