Metro has been stabilizing and rebuilding lives for almost 40 yearas. Metro's Shalom House Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing programs are the only 24-hour residential programs in St. Louis that serve chronically homeless women with mental illness and chemical dependency. The Emergency Shelter houses up to 25 women for a 90-day period, and the Transitional Housing program houses 12 women for up to two years. Both programs provide a safe environment for single women and include the integration of substance abuse and mental health treatment services, assessments, relapse prevention groups, occupational therapy, medication management, life skills training and health management services. The goal is to provide women with the skills needed to transition to independent living.
