Sunday School Registration

The Larchmont Avenue Church Sunday School

Children’s Ministry is a key ministry of the Larchmont Avenue Church. Our goal is to help our children learn and grow in Christian faith through our educational and music programs, worship, service projects and fellowship.

Sunday School classes are offered for children age 3 through eighth grade. Children younger than 3 are cared for in the nursery during worship. (See Youth Ministry page for information about Confirmation class and other high school programs.)

The LAC Sunday School meets most Sundays during the school year. Except on Communion Sundays, children in kindergarten and older attend the first part of our 10:00 worship service with their families, then leave with their teachers for class. On the first Sunday of the month, children begin in their classrooms at 10, then kindergarten and older grades go to worship in time for the sacrament of Communion. Preschool children remain in their classrooms during the entire service.

Parents are asked to register their children for Sunday School each year, on a single form, available below. Attendance records are kept each week, and faithful attendance is encouraged.

Teachers and helpers are all volunteers. This is the most tangible way that members of our congregation can fulfill the promise they make at each baptism in our Church, the promise to help nurture that child's faith.

Curriculum
Lessons for preschool through grade 8 currently come from the Presbyterian curriculum, We Believe: God’s Word for God’s People, which teaches Bible stories and the basic beliefs of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

In September 2013, we will use the lectionary-based Seasons of the Spirit curriculum in our preschool through 4th grade classes, as well as 7th grade. We will use CONNECT (Old Testament) in 5th grade, and re:form Ancestors in 8th grade, both from Sparkhouse.

Offerings are collected in kindergarten and older classes. While no student is required to bring an offering, we want to teach children that giving is part of Christian life. Students are also invited to participate in several mission projects and special collections during the year.

Our program year includes special events such as the presentation of Bibles to our 4th graders, our annual Christmas pageant and several intergenerational workshops. We encourage all families to participate together in the various service and membership activities at LAC.

Nursery
Child care is available for infants and toddlers during worship every Sunday. There are several paid child care providers on hand, as well as volunteers and parents as needed. When attendance warrants it, parents of children in the nursery are expected to help once or twice during the school year on a scheduled rotation basis.
