Black Bottom Conversation

Please listen to this YouTube recording of a sacred conversation held in January, 2022.  It is an opportunity for our congregation to understand a series of signficant events in the history of West Philadelphia.  Our guests, Dr. Walter Palmer and Gerald (Sid) Bolling, help us to understand the impacts of the racial divide in our area of the city.  The Black Bottom, a self-sustaining African-American community, was a thriving community that was dismatled by "urban renewal." Recent developments have put affordable housing in our neighborhood in jeopardy.

Service and Outreach

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me." (Matthew 25:35)

In the tradition of the earliest Cathedrals, we are a place unconditional hospitality and welcome to all who walk through our open doors.  We minister to the hungry seeking physical sustenance through the Cathedral’s many feeding programs, as well as to the despairing seeking spiritual solace and sustenance through prayer, fellowship, and pastoral care. We are grateful for a dedicated group of volunteers and the other agencies we have partnered with that include Philabundance, Our Closet in Your Neighborhood and Episcopal Community Services.

Cathedral Table Ministries - All are welcome to these ministries

Throughout the week, our doors are open to connect with our neighbors over our shared need for food, clothing, and community. Our service and outreach programs are a part of Cathedral Table Ministries. All of our outreach ministries center on meeting one another at God's table. Whether through worship, service, or some combination of both. We're always looking for volunteers to support these ministries, and all are invited to participate.

Food Pantry

Free food is available Mondays from 9:30 - 11 am (except on holidays when the Cathedral is closed)

UCHC provides food and other services on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm.

Our Closet in Your Neighborhood
