Stewardship
Christian Stewardship is the recognition of a simple fact: God owns everything; we own nothing. All that we 'have' is really on loan - or, more precisely, entrusted - to us.
We are stewards, managers, of all the resources that God has put into our care. As stewards, we will one day be called to account for the way we have discharged our duties. Stewardship, then, includes giving money and time and talent to the life of the local parish to which we belong. Responsible stewardship should incorporate the principle of tithing, or proportional giving. The precise percentage that is used - 10% or something else - or whether pre-tax or after tax figures are used in calculations, is ultimately unimportant. What matters is that giving is experienced as spiritual exercise and that it is done joyfully and with thanksgiving for Holy Scripture reminds us that God's desire is that we give out of a greatful heart.
Members of St. Margaret's are asked, each fall, to estimate their giving for the coming calendar year, both financially and with respect to time/ talent. These estimates are held in confidence, and they are not contractual obligations. They are indespensable, however, for doing realistic planning. The Rector is not informed as to who does and who does not pledge, nor do they know the amount of anyone's pledge.
As important as your financial giving is, we view the giving of your time and talent of equal importance. We have many opportunities for you to get involved from grounds keeping to exercising your spiritual gifts. We encourage everyone to try different ministries and choose one that allows you to contribute your talents to the body.
