We believe that the Lord had St. Margaret's in mind when our 12 founding members began gathering at Vince's Restaurant in 1972. By early 1974, through the Bishop's Mission Fund, they established our current site on 3.5 acres of land on Perkins Road. On August 25, 1974, the first worship services were held in a temporary classroom building purchased from the Board of Education. That small building has served us in many ways over the years. The Reverend John G. Allen officiated as our first priest.
Our founders chose St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland and patron saint of motherhood as our namesake. Her generous spirit and example of giving to the poor and orphaned will always give us cause for inspiration. Two of her descendants are members of St. Margaret's, and together we all desire to follow her wonderful example.
By 1977, we were ready to build. Bishop James Brown broke ground for the first permanent structure on our site. This was a monumental step for our mission church. St. Margaret's was blessed in those days as the church is now with many active and hardworking people. True to the stewardship of real pioneers, much was the product of our own hands. We constructed the multi-purpose space in which we still worship, meet and fellowship daily.
