The flower calendar can be found in the window to the church office. Altar flowers are a special way to honor loved ones on special occasions or to be a memorial. Suggested donation is $30.

The ECW has decided to take on the project of sending packages to US soldiers in Iraq. A parishioner, Sean Eslinger, and Vicki Griesinger’s brother, are both serving at this time. We are looking for donations from the parish. Desirable items include: candy, cookies, crackers, protein bars, trail mixes, nuts, used books, CDs and DVDs, toiletries (deodorant, razors, toothbrushes/toothpaste, foot powder, etc). There is a clear container under the ECW bulletin board in the hallway to place the items. Please join us in expressing appreciation to our troops! Our Church Office Manager, Carrie Watson, is being married August 2nd at 3:00 p.m. in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church at 10345 Montgomery Road in Cincinnatti, Ohio. The Congregation is cordially invited to attend; directions are available in the parish office. Carrie will be out of the office until the 18th, however the office will remain open during its normal hours. (Many thanks to Pat Evans and the volunteers!)

Christianity has survived the modern era despite the rise of science and secular culture. Now many say that America has moved into a postmodern era, which presents a new set of challenges to Christianity. The Sunday evening book study group will explore those challenges, while discussing the book Postmodernism 101: A First Course for the Curious Christian by Heath White. If you are curious, please join us Sunday evening, May 11th, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the EFM room. We will focus on topics of interest to most Christians. Contact Clint Collins or the parish office.

Anyone currently involved in or interested in becoming involved in any Pastoral Care ministry is invited to attend a Pastoral Care meeting on Wednesday, August 13th in the Parish Hall. The gathering will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by a potluck sandwich/salad supper at 6:30 as well as a discussion on “Pastoral Care for Pastoral Care Givers” facilitated by Rev. John Dews. Members of the St. Raphael’s Pastoral Care Team will join us. Pastoral Care Ministries include Prayer Partners, New Family Ministry, writing notes to parishioners, Share-a-Ride, Hospital visitation, Healing Team, and Eucharistic Ministry. Come to a Cathedral Domain summer camp! Mini-camp (attendees of 1st & 2nd grades) to Senior Conference (grades 9-12) and Everything in between, there’s a camp for you.
We have the minimum adults signed up for our Parish Weekend at the Cathedral Domain for August 15–17, 2008. Now we need a commitment (paid) from a few of you in order to reserve our spot. EFM will have openings for new students in the fall. EFM meets weekly at St. Michael’s during the fall and spring semesters. EFM trains lay people in Old Testament and New Testament scripture, church history and theology. The course takes 4 years to complete. Faith in Action – Elder Outreach is an extraordinary program that helps older adults remain in their homes by connecting them with volunteers. Volunteers help older adults with non-medical activities such as transportation, friendly visits, or running errands. Volunteers give as much time as they would like and set their own schedule. Orientation in the Lexington area will be offered: Monday July 7th, 6-7 pm at the Tates Creek Library at 3628 Walden Drive.
Race for the Cure- A golf tournament for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will take place at the Picadome Park course on August 23rd. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. Women’s teams or 2 men and 2 women teams accepted. Applications can be found in the Narthex.
