Middle School Youth Ministry
6th - 8th Grade
Confirmation (6th – 8th grade), Mentorship (9th grade)
Through Confirmation Ministry, our young people GROW into the story of God’s love for the world; EXPERIENCE the story of God’s mercy for all people and LIVE out the story of God’s saving grace through Jesus. Confirmation is an experience for youth in 6th-9th grade which takes place in two segments.
The first segment takes place during their 6th-8th grade year where we focus on the hallmarks of the faith using Luther’s Small Catechism and the Bible as our main resources. Through large group teaching sessions with the pastors and relationships with their peers in small groups, they will have a variety of experiences which will help them grow in their understanding of faith and what God is up to in the world. This segment takes place on Wednesday Nights from 6:00-7:30pm, beginning with worship.
The second segment is meant to enhance and deepen the experiences our young people had in the first segment. Often referred to as “Mentoring”, it is geared for 9th graders, and combines a mentoring relationship with an adult in the congregation with experiences and activities aimed at providing opportunities to make your faith a daily, living experience. This segment will take place on Sunday mornings from 11:30am-12:30apm, following worship. This will take place every Sunday, September-January (minus holidays), with the Confirmation service taking place in mid-January.
Colla Voce Choir (6th – 12th grade)
All God's creatures have a place in the choir - that means you! If you are in 6th-12th grade, your place is in the Colla Voce Choir. No previous experience is necessary. We meet from 4:45-5:45 on Wednesdays. We provide special music for the 10:15 services usually twice a month. We also have been helping with leading the singing for Wednesday worship. Don't miss out on being a part of this important ministry opportunity! For more information, check out music ministry.
Fun and fellowship
Throughout the year, fun events are planned so you have the opportunity to develop relationships with those outside your small group. Some past events include: bonfires, snow tubing, lock-ins, movie nights, pajama parties, etc. Most of these events are free of charge and you are encouraged to invite friends who may not attend St. Mark's.
