The Nativity

Works of Art
in St. Eugene's

The Nativity

This beautifully carved depiction of the Nativity
was carved in Ortisei, Italy by Herbert Moroder.
It is displayed in the narthex
during the Christmas season

You will notice that although all the statuary in St. Eugene's,
including our beautiful Nativity, was carved in Italy,
it is of a style more reminiscent of that found in
Southern Germany and Austia.
This will be understood by the knowledge that Ortisei also goes
by the name St. Ulrich from the time when the town was part of Austria.
German is the spoken language of this area.

The figures in this Nativity was commissioned and first displayed in 1998
with additional figures added in 1999.
