Fr. Jerry
Pastor
From Your Pastor’s Desk
Last Sunday I hosted a Vocation Picnic. We
had about 25 priests, transitional deacons,
seminarians, and other young men
thinking about priesthood in attendance.
It was a great afternoon, which gives
me great hope for the future. If we can
get even just a few of these young men
to be ordained priests what a boost it
would be for the Church. Please keep
all these men in your prayer as they
discern a possible call to priesthood. If
you know of someone who you think
might consider becoming a priest, pass
their name on to me or Fr. Paul. I
would love to be able to invite them to
an event like this in the future.
During this summer I have had three
seminarian deacons living with me at
the St. Monica rectory (Deacon Luke
Strand, Deacon Dan Janasik and Deacon
Greg Michaud). They have been great
examples for others of how priesthood
is a viable option for a career path.
These three men take their faith life
seriously, but they are also ordinary,
fun, energetic men who are trying to
serve the Lord. Please keep them in
your prayers.
Speaking of picnics, please save the
date of Sunday September 7th
This will
be the date of my installation as Pastor
of St. Eugene parish. Archbishop Timo-
thy Dolan will come to install me and
Fr. Paul as your priests at the 11:00 AM
Mass. Immediately after Mass we will
gather outdoors for a picnic. It should
be a great time with lots of food and
fun. If you are interested in helping
with this event, please give the parish
office a call and we will put you to work either planning or helping on the day.
Just a reminder that this Friday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. It is a
holy day of obligation. We will have Mass here at St. Eugene on Friday afternoon at 12:15 PM and Friday evening at 7:00
PM. There will be Mass offered at St. Monica on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM and Friday morning at 8:00 AM. This should
give you plenty of options to be able to attend a Mass. Please take this obligation seriously and plan on attending.
Have a great week, see you in Church!
God bless,
Fr. Jerry Herda
