2A Winter Experiments

Winter Experiments

The students of 2A have been given a packet of wintertime experiments and 2 reading activities to be completed over the next three weeks.  All experiments will be due the 31st of January.

I hope you will enjoy doing these experiments with your child .

Happy Winter Days!

2A Show & Tell

On the list below you will notice that your child has a day for “Show & Tell”. Items that are related to what we are studying are appreciated, as well as, items dealing with science and nature. I would like to ask you to discourage all items that have a violent connotation. One item may be brought or, if they choose, they may just do a “Tell”

1st & 3rd Friday - Girls                  2nd & 4th Friday – Boys

Brrr....January is Polar Region Month in 2A!
January 14, 2008 In science this month we are learning about the Polar Regions. You may have noticed your child digging through their books looking for one on penguins- we've been reading up on Tacky the Penguin this week! We've also been busy doing all sorts of "cool" experiments- check out the packet sent home today for some neat finger-fakin' nose-warmin' things to do on these cool winter days! Read More
Birthdays

It has been my practice for all my many years of teaching to celebrate the children’s birthdays with a nutritious snack. You may bring in muffins, soft pretzels or create a fun treat with your child. The children eat their snack on the playground, so please, “NO CUPCAKES”. Summer birthdays may celebrate on the ½ birthday or in May; please let me know in advance when you choose.

Child of the Week

During the year, each child will have the opportunity to be our “Special Butterfly”. Listed below are the dates I have matched with your child. These were chosen at random, so please feel free to change with another child if this causes a conflict. I will send a reminder notice a week before your child’s date is due, at that time, if you would send in a note as to what you have planned, I will add it to our schedule.

Some Ideas:

Monday: Bring in pictures of family and special interests mounted on a poster board

Tuesday: “Surprise Box”   I have a little box into which you and your child will put an item, then you will write on a card 3 clues for your child to give to the class. The class then tries to guess. More details are in the box.

Wednesday: Join us for lunch

Thursday: Send in a nutritious snack

Friday: “The Estimation Jar” Your Butterfly may bring in a number (between 25 & 100) of the same item to be placed in a jar. The class will then estimate how many are in the jar. For example: 35 pencils, 26 spider rings, etc. Then your Butterfly will share the items with their classmates, taking the remainder home.

First Reconciliation on Saturday, January 26th!
January 14, 2008 2A has embarked on our spiritual journey towards receiving our First Eucharist this Spring. On January 26th, at 10:30 A.M. in the Main Church, we will take an important step in our journey and make our First Reconciliation. This will be a communal penance celebration. Anyone wishing to join Mr. Irwin on Saturday, January 19th at the 3:45 Confession in the Mary Chapel is very welcome. This may be a good way to model for our precious children what receiving this sacrament can be like- and that they have nothing to fear, only peace of Christ to gain. We're all looking forward to this special time! Read More
Please don't forget to Re-Enroll your child!
January 14, 2008 Please make sure you return your Re-Enrollment Packet to the Office by January 18th, to ensure your child a place next year! Read More
Math- Subtraction and BEYOND!
January 14, 2008 Please help your child at home with our "Beat the Clock" math tests! We're working on subtraction now, and the children are happily earning their "ribbons" for each number. If you have flash cards at home, they are a fun and effective way to help your child learn math! Read More
