Core Values

Three Village Church

Our core values

Three Village Church is a community of people who are on a spiritual journey.  We live out our life in a particular community called The Three Village Church.  So as the unique people of God that Christ is calling us to be, this is a short statement of who we are.  More than anything we hope it captures what beats most deeply in the heart of God.  These are the things we deem worthy of our life and even our death.

So in response to God, this is who we are passionately becoming...

People who are motivated by God's Word

We believe that the Bible is our final guide for faith and practice (also see our Statement of Faith). Therefore, in every area of church life we value Biblical teaching that informs our minds, ignites our hearts, and shapes our imaginations leading to permanent life-change through Christ.

People who respond to God with passionate worship

Worship is the joyful celebration of all that God has done for us in Christ. At TVC we deeply value "red-hot" worship (think of a piece of iron left in the fire until it turns red-hot) that is God-exalting, Biblically-focused, culturally-sensitive, and historically rich.

People who actively seek and embrace "missing people"

In three powerful stories (see Luke 15), Jesus stressed that God is seeking lost people. They are lost because God misses and actively seeks them. If this reflects the heart of God, then we must be on a mission from God to seek the missing people of our community.  In everything we do as a church, we will creatively and lovingly seek to include and welcome those who do not yet believe.

People who build a grace-filled Christian community

The backbone of our grace-filled Christian community is our small group ministry.  It is primarily in small groups of believers that we experience God's lavish grace for us. But whether it's in small groups or large groups, we strive to be a safe place where we can bring our struggles, our questions, and our sins.

People who are raising up new spiritual leaders

TVC isn't seeking mere spectators; we're mobilizing a community of spiritual leaders. Spiritual leaders are people who are actively growing in their faith,  discovering their gifts and launching into risk-taking ventures of servanthood for Christ.

People who undergird everything we do in prayer

We're not afraid to say that we desperately need God's grace. All of our plans, our striving, our innovation mean nothing unless God blesses it. So at the center of our life together, we want to create time and space to wait for God, seek His face, listen for His word, and then act in accordance with His will.

People who sacrifice to see Christ proclaimed to all the nations

We as a church family are willing to sacrifice our resources to proclaim Christ to all the nations.  As a result we are involved in supporting and sending agents of Christ's love (see 2 Corinthians 5:17-21) to people groups in places like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, the Ukraine, Spain, and the Philippines.  We're also striving to raise up a new generation of leaders who will give their lives to proclaim Christ to the nations.

People who actively care for the poor and hurting in our community

The compassion of Jesus is not just a nice concept for us; we're trying to live it and display it, especially to the poor, the broken, and the hurting. This clear Biblical command (see James 1:27) motivates us to act in practical deeds of mercy.  It is truly our desire to be the presence of Jesus in our local community.

People who celebrate our diversity and unity in Christ

Look around TVC and you'll soon discover that we are a diverse group of people. We like that. We don't think Jesus processes people through a "cookie cutter" before they can follow Him. At the same time, we passionately believe the great essentials of the Christian faith.

People who desire to love and serve university students

TVC is within a few miles of Stony Brook University. With over 20,000 students - including over 2,000 international students from over 100 countries - Stony Brook University is a major mission field. By welcoming and embracing these students, by sharing the Good News of Jesus, we hope to see God raise up a new generation of disciples.
