Drop-In Grief Support Group

The purpose of the Grief Support Group is to provide a supportive and confidential setting for grieving persons to come together and to share their grief journeys following major losses in their lives. This ministry falls under the Pastoral Care umbrella.  It  began in June 2014 under the leadership of Randall Clingenpeel, an experienced counselor and hospital chaplain.

The support group meets the third Monday of each month from 3:00 – 4:30 P.M.in the Health Ministries Room (Rm. 14).  Each meeting begins with a brief presentation on managing grief, followed by an opportunity for participants to react, as well as, to share their own concerns.  It’s in the sharing that often participants experience a lifting of their grief burden.  A primary underpinning of this ministry is that a grief shared is a grief lessened.

Discussion topics often relate to the impact of loss, coping and meaning-making, and on practical issues of daily living following a loss.  Confidentiality is honored at every meeting, and while participants may share as they are ready, there is no pressure to talk.  Simply being among others who speak the language of grief can be healing and comforting.

If possible, please contact Randall prior to attending for the first time.  His email address is randsclingenpeel@cox.net.
