Leo Mooney's Biography

themissionsguy - CopyLeo Mooney is a life-long native Missourian.  Although born in St. Louis, he was raised in Salem, Missouri until age 12 when the family moved back to St. Louis.  He is a 1965 graduate of O'Fallon Technical High School (now Gateway Tech) located in midtown St. Louis.  He is a 1968 graduate of International Bible College, a small college with a world missions' emphasis, located in San Antonio, Texas.  Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973 as a Communication Specialist and Air Traffic Controller.

After his honorable separation from the military, he reentered college receiving an Associate Degree from St. Louis Community College at Meramec in Business in 1980 and another in Communications in 1981.  He received his Bachelor's Degree in 1983 from St. Louis University graduating Magna Cum Laude.  Upon graduation he was elected to serve as a Business Representative of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) where he served for 18 years as a Labor and Contract Negotiator, retiring early in 2002.  Over the past 15 years he has coached girls basketball at various levels, first at Twin Oaks Christian School, later at Westminster Christian Academy and currently at Ritenour High School.

Leo has served on the Twin Oaks Church World Missions Committee continuously in various roles since 1992 and has led numerous short-term missions teams.  In 2002 he began serving at Twin Oaks as a Ruling Elder.  In 2006 he was appointed as the Director of World Missions, the position that he currently holds.  His duties keep him in regular contact with over 40 TOPC supported missionaries world wide while directing the overall world missions' outreach.  In Support of the TOPC missions ministry he has traveled to Mexico, Bulgaria, Kenya, Peru and Ecuador with return missions planned to these countries as well as to locations in India and China in the foreseeable future.

Leo, and his wife, Tina, have been married for 25 years and have three children (Dionne, Marc and Whitney).  Tina has served as an RN at St. Joseph Hospital - Kirkwood for over 20 years, primarily as a heart nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.  She will complete her Master's Program as a Nurse Practitioner in May of 2008.
